'CRAFT-RMBC'

The Use of RMBC's (Rotating Microbial Biological Communities)
for bacterial management in marine larval fish

Project objectives

The project on the use of RMBC’s for bacterial management in marine larval fish (project number CRAF-2002-72221) is a “Cooperative Research Action For Technology” (CRAFT) under the thematic programme: “Quality of Life” in the Framework Programme 5 of the European Commission

This project groups a consortium of 4 private companies situated in Belgium, Portugal and Greece and of 3 universities situated in Belgium and Portugal. The project coordinator is INVE Technologies NV, Dendermonde, Belgium.

The main objective of this CRAFT project is to test a number of selected mixtures of representative bacterial strains, derived from good performing live food cultures and make them commercially available for seabream hatcheries. The benefit for the sector will be the development of a sustainable, more predictable way for the production of live food and larval fish by using RMBCs and to exclude the use of antibiotics.
